Alvarez Calls it a Day in La Romana

La Romana Limones officials flanked Luis Alvarez as he announced his retirement from pro baseball today. Rumors have had him on the verge of retirement since late last week but were not confirmed until today.
"I want to leave the game the way I came into it," said Alvarez. "I don't want to become an embarrassment to myself and the team."

5-Hit Barrage by Evans

The Wasilla Warriors stopped the New Haven Patriots by a score of 16-12 at Red Hawks Field, with the lion's share of the credit going to second baseman Josh Evans. The 26-year-old had a career day, collecting 5 hits.
"Every batter wants to have a quality at-bat every time he steps up to the plate," Evans said later. "He wants to hit the ball hard."
Evans did just that in his 6 at-bats, much to the chagrin of the Patriots.
"Not much that I can say," offered New Haven manager . "He just hammered the heck out of us."
Josh Evans singled in the 1st, singled in the 3rd, hit an RBI single in the 5th, hit an RBI single in the 6th, flied out in the 7th and hit a three-run double in the 8th.
So far this season, Evans is hitting .256 with no home runs, 7 RBIs and 3 runs scored. He has 10 hits in 39 at-bats and a .310 OBP.
