5-for-7 Day for Rivera Thursday, April 14th , 2050 It's not something you read about in the sports pages every day -- a 5-for-7 day. For many, it might come around only once in a career -- and for Jose Rivera, it came around today. The 16-year-old second baseman scattered hits all over Typhoon Park to pace the 26-8 Acapulco HS Typhoon victory over the Austin HS Bucs. Austin HS skipper told reporters in the press room that "Rivera deserves a hat-tip." "He hit some good pitches against us," he said. "In fact, according to our scouting reports, Rivera hit several that he is not supposed to be able to hit." Jose Rivera struck out in the 1st, flied out in the 2nd, hit a two-run single in the 3rd, hit an RBI single in the 4th, doubled in the 6th, doubled in the 7th and singled in the 8th. This season, Rivera has posted a batting average of .377 with 61 hits in 162 at-bats, 16 home runs and 46 RBIs. He has also scored 47 runs, walked 24 times and compiled a .455 OBP. |
