Clutch Hitting Delivers Win for Jackals
|
Jacksonville pitcher David Melchor did his part in helping his team beat the Tampa Bay Sunrays, 4-1. The right-hander kept opposing batters from doing too much damage. Melchor, now 5-6, was the winner. In 8 innings, he gave up 4 hits, while striking out 6, walking 4, and allowing 1 run. Picking up the save was 22-year old left-handed pitcher Alex Gonzalez.
Daniel Hernandez, who finished 5th in the IL in OPS with .987 last year, took Tampa Bay hurler Jordan Lawson deep in the bottom of the eighth. His 2-run home run put the Jackals on top, 2-1. In all, Hernandez had 1 single in addition to the home run, while going 2 for 4.
"David throwing strikes, pounding the zone, that is exactly what you want to see," said Jacksonville manager David Fields.
Jacksonville now owns a record of 28-31.
