Firebirds Score Late to Beat Rangers, 3-2
|
The Phoenix Firebirds had to overcome a fine effort from Houston pitcher Ruben Mier to win, 3-2, at Globe Life Field. Mier went 7.1 innings and allowed no runs. Phoenix reliever Tomas Palacios snagged the win, upping his record to 4-2. Hector Fernandez shouldered the loss. The Rangers, now 28-41, have lost 6 straight.
Who knows how it would've ended, had it not been for Sergio Fuentes? The 27-year old left fielder Fuentes stroked a run-scoring double in the top of the tenth inning to put Phoenix up, 2-1. For the game, he was 2 for 5, including 1 double and 1 single.
"To not win that game stings a little bit," said Houston manager David Fields.
